By car:

  • From Munich via the Autobahn A95, exit Murnau or continue to the end of the highway towards Eschenlohe and leave in Oberau over the Ettal mountain to Oberammergau.
  • From Augsburg on the federal road B 23 leads you directly to Oberammergau
  • From Stuttgart via the motorway A7 to Kempten, then head for the B 12 to Marktoberdorf, B472, Schongau and the B 23 into the Alps of Oberammergau

By rail:

From Augsburg or Munich to Murnau. There you take the local train to Oberammergau. Alternatively, you can continue to Oberau and get the RVO bus into Oberammergau. Click here for the timetable of the Deutschen Bahn.

With the Romantic Road bus:

From May to October a bus leaves every day from Oberammergau and Ettal via the Romantic Road going from Frankfurt to Munich further on to Füssen and back again. The exact timetable and the prices can be found here.

By plane to:

  • Innsbruck: then by car, take the B11 to Mittenwald, then take the B 2 road on to Oberau and Ettal, or further on (see above how to continue) take the train from Oberau to Murnau. Then another train in Murnau to Oberammergau.
  • Augsburg: then continue by car or train (see above).
  • Munich: then continue by car or train (see above)

Getting around

The places in the Ammergau Alps are good reachable by public transport. Those places that are not directly on the web are well connected by buses.
